In July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month. This month marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act, and honors the history, culture, and experiences of the disabled community.
How we can celebrate Disability Pride Month:
– Educate ourselves on the history of disability in the US
– Understand the ADA, and make changes to our practices to accommodate all people.
– Listen to disabled voices, and learn about their experiences.

The image above this post shows the Disability Pride Flag, designed to represent the experiences and diversity of the disability community.
The flag features a charcoal gray background symbolizing mourning for those lost to ableist violence and neglect, as well as rage against systemic ableism.
The diagonal stripes represent different aspects of disability:
- Red (physical)
- Gold (neurodiversity/cognitive)
- White (invisible/undiagnosed)
- Blue (psychiatric/mental health)
- Green (sensory)
